Andre Agassi details the moment when he got into the Nick Bollettieri tennis academy
Andre Agassi received a pleasant surprise for his future when he was called to a tennis court indoors. He had never been before to indoors while playing a practice match in his early tennis career. The tennis player kept a record of the moment Bollettieri, one of the most renowned American tennis teachers of the era, chose him.
In his book, the tennis pro discussed the period when the American Court selected him and offered him a full scholarship for his continued athletic training. The eight-time Grand Slam winner was surprised and perplexed when Nick Bollettieri approached him as a young child.

Agassi recalled the former tennis coach’s words during that time and said, “That’s right. No, that’s no issue. I’m going to make it so you won’t pay a penny. Andre can stay, free of charge. I’m tearing up your check. My heart sinks. I know my father can’t resist anything free. My fate is sealed. Nick hangs up and spins toward me in his chair. He doesn’t explain.” However, the former tennis player knew that going into his Academy will change his fate for the rest of his life.
Nick Bollettieri also trained Maria Sharapova
Maria Sharapova was a staple of the renowned sports academy run by the American tennis coach. In addition to Andre Agassi, tennis legends Sharapova and Monika Seles were also a part of the academy.
