While the tennis star was exposed to clips of several extraordinary matches from his bucket, he was quite surprised to remember the golden match that he played against none other than the legend Roger Federer.

Sharing his feelings about his memorable match against the Swiss tennis maestro at the 2019 Australian Open, he said, “It was electric. Yes a lot of breaks at night. I was playing my idol and that’s a moment of glory. It felt magical!”

Along with mentioning the glory that the match added to his professional tennis career, Tsitsipas also highlighted an emotional angle from the moment. He narrated, “My brother started crying cause obviously he knows how much this means to me and it was one of the first matches that he got to watch on the Rod Laver arena and that happens.”

Tsitsipas’s victory over Federer marked a milestone in his career, along with adding a point where he faced his ‘idol’. Despite the challenges he faced during the match, the Greek tennis star emerged victorious, setting an example for the young enthusiasts.

This isn’t the first time when Stefanos Tsitsipas regarded Roger Federer as his idol. Appearing in an interview last year, the 25-year-old revealed the criteria through which he thinks a person becomes a GOAT.

He said, “For me, the GOAT is not who has won the most tournaments or who has won the most slams or who has won the most matches. For me, the GOAT is the person who has brought the most people to the to the sport, who has attracted the most people to the sport.”

Along with sharing his idea, he also gave out Federer’s name as the best fit for this criteria. “I think, in this case, it’s pretty clear that Roger Federer has had a huge impact on that,” he said.
