Roger Federer’s retirement last year created a significant void in the world of tennis. After Serena Williams, fans had great difficulty coming to terms with Federer’s absence from the ATP circuit. However, the Swiss Maestro has not severed his bond with the sport. Even now, he is working towards several goals he has set for himself. One of his major aims is to expand his charity work and promote tennis around the world. To stay true to this path, Federer gifted a prized possession of his to a tennis association in Africa.

The Roger Federer Foundation was established in 2004, putting his newfound status and privilege at that time to good use. He, along with everyone employed in the foundation, aims to provide for underprivileged children around the world. Along with education, the organization also wants to expose children to extracurricular activities.

Besides being one of the greatest players to ever set foot on the court, the mighty Federer also wants to use his position to alleviate the plight of people around the world. With the help of his foundation, Federer has carried out several charitable activities. Recently, Federer went on another charity spree, and the video of the event was shared by an account on Twitter.

It showed Federer giving his prized possession to a struggling tennis committee. He handed over his French Open racquet, which he used in his last Grand Slam event before retiring, to Lesotho Lawn Tennis Association. Along with donating his prized possession, the mighty Federer also spent time with the children in the academy. 

He played tennis and carried out several drills with the kids. Federer also shared pictures of the landscape of the country and played games with the local populace. The Foundation also announced this venture on their official Twitter account.

The Kingdom of Lesotho is a country landlocked by South Africa. While this gesture from Federer may seem small, it will surely motivate the aspiring tennis players of the African country.

The goal of Federer’s foundation

The Roger Federer Foundation came into existence in 2004 and has been working with children around the world. They aim to improve the situation of schooling. Their primary motive is to make children ready for school and the schools ready for their children. One of their goals is to provide facilities to schools that lack them and therefore help children in getting the quality education they deserve.

The foundation also holds several charity matches in order to raise the required funds for their ventures. After his retirement, Federer has doubled down on his venture to improve the status of children. His work will surely inspire many to great heights.
