He is gaining attention on the ATP tour for his incredible accomplishments. As he is ranked 36th in the PIF ATP Live Rankings, he has proven his mettle on clay courts, winning his first tour-level event in Lyon the previous season. Nevertheless, Fils encountered difficulties earlier this year, losing in the second round of clay-court competitions in Buenos Aires, Rio de Janeiro, Santiago, and Estoril.

Fils is keen to get back on track on the ATP tour and create history in French tennis after his recent victory over Hanfmann, which brings to mind Richard Gasquet’s incredible shock of Roger Federer in 2005. Next up for Fils is a difficult encounter against Italian Lorenzo Musetti, who proved his mettle by winning in straight sets over 13th seed Taylor Fritz in the previous round. Fils’ thoughts on playing for the first time in Monte Carlo.

After making an amazing start to the tournament, in a press conference during the same, he opened up about his thoughts on being a part of such a prestigious event and credited his amazing victory to all the champions who inspired him growing up.

He said, “I watched a lot this tournament on TV. I saw many champions. I’m happy to play here for the first time. Well, it’s good to play the tournament, but it’s also good to win matches, and I hope I’ll keep coming here in the following years, and I’m sure it’s going to become a milestone in my season.” However, it will be interesting to see what’s more for the young French tennis sensation, while he performs great in the tournament.
