Players are already gearing up for the Monte Carlo masters, as the latest draw is out. Current world no.1 Novak Djokovic is all set to make his return to the tennis court after the Dubai Open. Also, he is leading the pack as the no.1 seed at this tournament. There was also some extra hype around Carlos Alcaraz, the 2022 Miami Open champion. However, we will not see the ‘King of Clay’ Rafael Nadal in the main draw due to injury who incidentally won this tournament record 11 times.

Novak Djokovic and Carlos Alcaraz could potentially clash in the quarter-final at the Monte Carlo Masters

The first round of the Monte Carlo Masters featured some big match-ups. In the first round, we will see Gael Monfils play against Polish no.1 Hubert Hurkacz in an entertaining match-up. In another match-up, we will see Diego Schwartzmanlock horns against Karen Khachanov in the very first round. Miami Open winner, Carlos Alcaraz will get a bye in the first round but could face Sebastian Korda in a fiery second-round match.

No.1 seed Novak Djokovic could also face a tough opponent in the second round in Marcos Giron of the USA. Moreover, we could see a potential clash between Novak Djokovic and Carlos Alcaraz in the quarter-final at the Monte Carlo Masters. In Djokovic’s half of the draw, we could see Cameron Norrie could face the Miami Open finalist Casper Ruud in the quarterfinal.

In the other half of the draw where the no.2 seed Alexander Zverev could possibly face the hard-hitting Russian, Andrey Rublev, in the quarter-final. The no.3 seed Stefanos Tsitsipas could play Felix Auger Aliassime in another potential quarterfinal tie. Also, the returning Stan Wawrinka will face Alexander Bublik in a fun first-round match.

Can Djokovic win his third Monte Carlo Masters in 2022?

With Rafael Nadal already out of the tournament, all eyes will be on Novak. After a terrible 2022 so far, Novak Djokovic will play his second tournament of the season in Monte Carlo. Now, he has a great chance to redeem himself and his terrible year by winning the first big clay-court tournament of the season. Previously, the Serb won the tournament 2-times (2013 and 2015).

However, winning the tournament will not be easy for the Serbian player, as other players, like Alcaraz and Zverev, will be standing in his way.
