Is Jannik Sinner the next Federer, Nadal, or Djokovic, or is it too soon to tell?

Jannik Sinner is in the form of his life, there’s no doubt about it. The Italian tennis sensation has been playing exceptionally well, thus accomplishing a near-perfect winning streak over his opponents. Thanks to an impressive performance in most of the matches in 2024, the World No.1 has now received a major compliment, putting him in the elite Big 3 territory.

Sinner started the year with a bang, clinching his first-ever Grand Slam trophy at the Australian Open after pulling off a historic victory against Daniil Medvedev. Being down in the first two sets, he fought hard and dominated his Russian opponent, eventually winning 3-6, 3-6, 6-4, 6-4, 6-3. Similarly, he continued an unbeaten run in events like the Miami Open, Halle Open, and the Cincinnati Masters.

The former ATP pro Vincenzo Santopadre recently compared Sinner’s run in 2024 to the glory days of the Big 3 in tennis. “In tennis, only one wins and it is quite incredible that one this year has had a monstrous percentage of victories, worthy only of Federer, Nadal and Djokovic,” The ex-coach of Matteo Berrettini was quoted as saying by Tuttosport.

Although Sinner’s still at an early stage of his career, such words coming from someone like Vincenzo speak volumes of his huge potential. After having a great first half of the season, Sinner proved his mettle once again by clinching the second Major title of his career at the US Open.

But the player didn’t stop there, as he also took home the Six Kings Slam trophy in Saudi Arabia last month. In simple words, it has been the best season of Sinner’s career.

Given his form, the Fox is expected to continue his memorable run in 2024 in the upcoming ATP Finals. Just a few days ago, however, a health update from him caused a bit of a stir. He pulled out of the Paris Masters due to an intestinal virus. The news cast doubts over his participation in Turin. But then a much-needed update from his coach confirmed Sinner’s presence at the Finals.

It turns out I’ve come down with a virus. I’m feeling better now, but I’m still not ready to compete here in Paris.”
