“After my career, of course I wanna have a good living. But earning money as 99% people are doing every single day, was not my motivation. It starts from the beginning, by 17-years-old I won my first million. So money goes out of the window. You lose the sense of value, you don’t know what a million is, you don’t know that 99% of people would never earn a million.”
Becker went on to claim that money was not the primary source of motivation for tennis, rather, it was winning titles. He also wanted to become the best player in the history of the sport.
“The driving motor for my professional career was never money it was winning titles. It was becoming the best player in the world, becoming number 1. That’s why I wanted to play. ”
