Pickleball’s popularity has skyrocketed since the COVID-19 pandemic. The paddle sport has drawn the fancy of many sports stars around the world as they have invested in it. The craze of the sport has only increased as it is seeing unprecedented growth throughout the USA. Its fever has also gripped Texas as plans for new Pickleball stadiums have come to light.

While pickleball may be growing in one field, it has experienced a major shock in another field. Recently, Major League Pickleball shared harrowing news for its players but did provide some cushioning.

The rise of pickleball in the USA did not die down soon. The paddle sport developed quickly and rode the wave to sweep across the nation. Many facilities have been created to accommodate the rise in players. Now, the aficionados in Texas might also cash in on the fun. The Sports & Fitness Industry Association (SFIA) recently released the 2023 State of Pickleball: Participation & Infrastructure Report.

It provides an in-depth analysis of pickleball participation and facilities in the United States. It also provides data showing the investment needed for the sport at a state level. The highlights from the data also showed that Texas will need to build 2,527 courts with a budget of a whopping $88.5 million to keep up with the demand.

Players of the sport are moving councils to ensure that the sport reaches the height many see for it. The funds for the sport are increasing at an unprecedented rate. There is a high likelihood that the state will find the cash for it.

While the reach of the sport is increasing quickly, there is some bad news in store for picklers. 

Major League Pickleball announces major cuts

The rapid growth of the sport surprised many around the world. But not all is well in the world of pickleball. Recently, Major League Pickleball announced that it will have to cut 40% from the players employed under them for the 2024 season. However, they also cut the number of days they have to play in the season.

The regulation is 200 days, but it has been cut down to 120. If they fill the remainder of the days on the calendar with other pickleball activities, they do not need to share any percentage of income they earn with MLP. Although the sport has grown quite quickly, the cuts come as a major blow. But also, given its popularity, it has a great chance of a quick recovery.
