Novak Djokovic took it from where he had left off four days ago after winning his seventh ATP Finals crown in Turin. Djoker was in action yet again at the Davis Cup Finals in Malaga on Thursday. In this match, he had defeated Cameron Norrie of Great Britain by 6-4, 6-4 to secure a place for the Serbs in the semis for the second time in the last three years. With this win, he has achieved a historic feat of remaining unbeaten for 21 singles matches in the Davis Cup since 2011. Let’s have a look at those staggering numbers.

The 36-year-old Serbian created quite a few historic moments yesterday. The victory against Norrie marked his 40th Davis Cup singles win in his career. Djokovic is now the most successful Serbian player in the history of the Davis Cup.

Serbia has a good chance of repeating the heroics of 2010 when they had last won the trophy. The team won their maiden title by defeating France 3:2 in the finals. With Djokovic in red-hot form, winning back-to-back trophies, Serbia can be regarded as one of the favourites to win the 123 YO premier international men’s event. The Serb has always said that playing for the country is always a great feeling to him. Nothing motivates him more than representing his nation.

The Serbian icon had last lost a Davis Cup match in 2011 in the semifinals where Serbia faced Argentina. In fact, he had to retire during that clash against Juan Martin del Potro. But gone are the days of early retirement from the matches. He is now the holder of 24 Grand Slam titles. While Djoker and co. have already crossed a major hurdle by going past the 10x champion, Great Britain, more steep challenges await. To get to the finals, they have to first beat Jannik Sinner‘s Italy.
