After stunning all the opponents that fell in his way, Casper Ruud is currently the center of attraction at the Miami Open. The Norwegian tennis star showed a dominant performance to secure his position in the top 16, with the support and guidance from his father and coach Christian.

Backing his tennis career right from the beginning, Christian has not only cheered for his son but also passed on the experience that he gained in his own tennis days. Casper owes much of his success to the support and mentorship of his father, Christian Ruud. Born and raised in Oslo, Norway, Casper was introduced to the sport at the young age of 4 by his father.

Christian Ruud became a part of the tennis circuit in 1991 and reached a career-best ranking of world no 39 in 1995. His brilliant potential on the court earned him recognition as the highest-ranked Norwegian player of his time. Although Christian announced his retirement from professional tennis after the 2001 French Open, he remained deeply connected to the world of racket and ball, taking on the role of Casper’s primary coach.

Giving out details about the time when he started developing a love for tennis, Christian once mentioned, “When he was 10 or 11 years old, and first began winning tournaments. His feeling after he won tournaments… He was so happy.”

Accompanied by other coaches such as Pedro Clar Rossello and Joachim Bjerke, Casper currently stands out as a renowned entity on the ATP tour. In his amazing journey so far, the young sensation has broken records previously held by his father, carrying his legacy forward in the sport.

Christian reveals a proud moment in Casper Ruud’s career

Having spent more than eight years as a professional player, Casper Ruud has seen several ups and downs in the sport. In an interview where both dad and son appeared, Christian revealed one of his proudest moments, pointing at the 2022 French Open final.

“I think it was the French Open final against Rafa. Even though we lost, I think that it was very emotional to really reach there. The goal that year was at least to play a quarter-final in a Grand Slam and he played a final,” he said, appreciating his son’s achievement of competing against the King of Clay. As the young tennis star continues his hustle on the court, it remains to be seen how far the partnership with his father takes him.
