Do today's ATP stars lack the style and elegance of the legendary 'Big 4' era?

The stage is set in Turin! 8 superstars of the ATP world are ready to enlighten the iconic event throughout the next seven days. The season-ending championship is set to take place from November 10 to November 17 at the Inalpi Arena in Turin, Italy. However, before that, Carlos Alcaraz, Jannik Sinner, Alexander Zverev, and co. were spotted walking on the blue carpet at Piazza Carlo Alberto in stunning suits. Later on, they even went on to pose with the ATP Finals trophy. After seeing these pictures from this star-studded event some of the fans have now started to claim the fresh batch of ATP Finalists are in now match with the old batch consisting of the ‘Big 4 ‘ in terms of style.

A renowned Canadian men’s fashion industry writer and commentator, Derek Guy shared a few glimpses of their recent photoshoot at the Museo Nazionale del Risorgimento. He was also spotted drawing a comparison of their outfits with the ones featuring Federer, Nadal Djokovic, Murray, and a few others from the 2009 ATP Finals photoshoot. Guy criticized the color choices and the absence of ties from the recent pictures.

He tweeted, “Some of the outfits on the right have bad color choices. but most conspicuously, they are missing ties, which makes the outfits look very plain.” Derek Guy further went on to add, “Many of these jackets look bad because they are too soft for the wearer. The jacket needs a bit more padding, a stiffer haircloth and canvas, and frankly better tailoring. Jordan Peterson’s tailoring suffers from the same problem.”

Even some of the fans joined Guy to portray their disappointment with the recent look of Carlos Alcaraz, Jannik Sinner, and others in the photoshoot for the ATP Finals. None of the ‘Big 4’ in the tennis world will feature in this year’s ATP Finals, but how surprising isn’t it to see them stealing away the limelight by staying far away from the action?

Fans are not pleased with Carlos Alcaraz, Jannik Sinner, and other’s outfits for the ATP Finals photoshoot

With Roger Federer having already hung up his racquet in 2022 and Rafael Nadal announcing his retirement at the end of this season, Novak Djokovic was the only hope for the ‘Big 3’ fans. However, the Serb has also made himself unavailable for this mega event. When was the last time we saw the ATP Finals without these three? Well, it was back in 2001 when none of them had competed at an ATP Finals event (at the time it was called the Tennis Masters Cup). So missing their magic on the court was quite obvious, but little did we know that their off-court style would help them get into the scene featuring the new superstars of the tennis world!

Cheers to the ATP Finals of the New Era! As the competition goes on from here, we could perhaps see more of such comparisons relating to the ‘Big 3’ of the tennis world. After seeing two pictures side by side, a fan commented on Derek Guy’s post stating, “Feels like men on the left, boys on the right.?

With Roger Federer, we’ve always seen a touch of elegance no matter what he wore off the court. In fact, his off-court style has been a bit sophisticated, effortless, and impossibly suave. Fans loved watching him in black suits. Talking about suits, no one perhaps wore the suits as perfectly as the Swiss Maestro. The picture on the left shows, Roger Federer, Rafael Nadal, and a few others donning black suits with a tie. The picture on the left shows Carlos Alcaraz and his peers wearing suits of different colors. They didn’t wear any ties! Seeing these two pictures another one wrote, “Left: Gentlemen Right: Bros.

Not only Federer and Nadal, but even Andy Murray’s look in that picture caught the attention of the masses. In 2015, during an interview, Murray was asked to name the best designers for gentlemen. Replying to that question he had stated, “I’ve worn a few. Hackett are good. But yeah I like the Burberry suits though as well.” We can’t say who designed this black suit for Murray, but some of the fans heaped praise on his look from the 2009 ATP Finals.

One of them wrote, “OMG, Andy Murray & Co. look so young! To think that most of those guys have retired is disconcerting.” Andy Murray has officially retired from tennis in August this year! How nice it is to see him still having a special place in the hearts of his fans.

Derek Guy stated that Casper Ruud’s outfit looks a bit “odd“. However, Andrey Rublev’s choice of jacket drew praise from a few set of fans. Although Rublev is mostly seen wearing oversized and comfortable streetwear, this time he donned a $3,100 double-breasted jacket in cashmere and silk chevron-motif jacquard. Perhaps, wearing an Italian brand in Turin would have added a few names to the list of his supporters! However, another fan didn’t look too impressed with the looks of Carlos Alcaraz, Andrey Rublev, and others. The fan tweeted, “Those guys on the right aren’t real, right?! 😭.

Even Rafael Nadal’s look in that picture was liked by some of the fans. From sleeveless tops and ‘pirate’ pants to bold and bright Nike outfits, Nadal has often stunned the world with his choice of on-court outfits. However, even off-the-court his fashion statements have at times caught the attention of tennis fans. This picture from 2009 was perhaps one of them. A fan wrote, “Rafael is so elegant. He nailed the brief.” Who according to you had the best look?
