It’s time for the youngsters to shine. As one of the most promising young stars on the ATP circuit, Arthur Fils has created a place for himself in the tennis community with his recent achievement that came during the Monte Carlo Masters. As someone who started playing tennis at the age of 5 and by 19 has already entered the top 40 of the ATP ranking, Fils has come a long way with the support of his parents at every step of life.

However, not only did they support him, but they also taught him the biggest part of his on-court personality, which is to be fearless. Let’s take a look at Fils’ parents, who brought him up with such amazing lessons on and off the court.

Jean-Philippe and Anne Fils are the spearheads of a family that has a long history with the sport and is native to Bondoufle. Arthur’s father, Jean-Philippe, was the one who got him started in tennis and gave him devoted coaching until he was twelve. Interestingly, before his son’s blossoming tennis career caught the globe by storm, Jean-Philippe himself had a background in basketball. It was the beginning of his crucial influence on Arthur’s path to taking the tennis world by storm.

But at the same time, last year, he revealed how his parents’ learning has always helped him chase his dreams, setting no limit for himself. He stated, “Don’t be afraid of anyone, that’s the way my parents raised me. I don’t put any limits on myself (in terms of ranking), I play well, I progress, the ranking follows, if I can go Top 10 at the end of the year, I will go to Top 10 at the end of the year.”

The 19-year-old ATP phenom is already making his mark on tennis history. He is the youngest Frenchman to win a Monte-Carlo Masters match since the legendary Richard Gasquet’s epic upset of Roger Federer back in 2005. Not only that, but while he credits his parents for his tennis upbringing, last year Fils also opened up about the tennis idols he looks up to on the court.

Fils’ revelation over his on-court inspiration

Last year, in a candid interview, Arthur Fils also revealed how he wants to follow the example of Roger Federer and Rafael Nadal. He stated, “My idol was Federer but when you’re older, you enjoy watching Nadal play more and more, his mental, his way of fighting … These are players who have 22 Grand Slam [20 for Federer – ed.]. I’ll try to do the same to at least try to win one, two or three, they are examples.”

In addition, the Frenchman also talked about how watching Carlos Alcaraz at the US Open is something that motivates him to give his best. Holger Rune and Alcaraz are just a year older than Fils, and looking at them making it to the higher level of the tournaments and winning titles motivates him to do his best!
