After the 2023 US Open, Matteo Berrettini had to take a break from the rest of the season as he had injured his right ankle ligament. Finally, on October 27th, he announced that on the advice of his medical team, he had opted to forego participation for the rest of the year. He would take that time to recuperate and prepare for 2024.

He was supposed to start the 2024 season with his first tournament at Brisbane International. However, as per the latest news, he has once again decided to not play because of yet another injury. This certainly isn’t the way we hoped Berrettini would start 2024.

Matteo Berrettini will not play at Brisbane International due to an injury

In a recent online post on Twitter, a tennis handle posted about how Matteo Berrettini would not be able to play at the Brisbane International. It was supposed to be his first tournament going into the 2024 season.

The post announced, “OFFICIAL! Affected by foot pain, Matteo Berrettini declares 𝗙𝗢𝗥𝗙𝗔𝗜𝗧 for his first tournament of the season in Brisbane” Berrettini has apparently injured his foot again due to which he will not be playing. He may get better and start the season with the Australian Open instead of Brisbane but this certainly is a bummer for him as well as his fans who have been waiting for long for him to be back on court.

Berrettini did not have a satisfactory 2023 season as well due to his injuries. This not only affected his physical health but also his mental health. He talked about this a month back too.

Berrettini opens up about the effect his injuries have had on his health

During one of his conferences at the Davis Cup, Matteo Berrettini said how he has been very sad recently and there are a lot of reasons to it. He shared that he loves to play tennis but due to his injuries, he hasn’t been able to do so, which is disheartening.

Besides that, he also shared that when he decided to come back, he did not enjoy the process of coming back. He had to pressurize himself and push himself more to be back, which hadn’t been the case early on in his career. Earlier, he was always eager to be back. He shared that he was not ready to face the challenge of coming back. Lastly, he added that he would like to play as many matches as possible in 2024.
