Former US Open champion Marin Cilic has withdrawn from the Wimbledon Championships 2022. Notably, the 33-year-old has tested positive for covid-19. The Croatian would have played his first-round match today against Mackenzie McDonald of the USA. This might also put Novak Djokovic at risk as the Serb came in close contact with Cilic.

This is a huge setback for the 2017 Wimbledon finalist, as he was in brilliant form this year and could have done well in the tournament.
Marin Cilic practiced with Novak Djokovic
Now that the Croatian has tested positive for Covid-19, there could be a huge risk to the tournament. Notably, the 33-year-old was seen practicing with defending champion, Novak Djokovic. In what could be a huge upset to the tournament, the Serb clearly came in close contact with Cilic. If he tests positive, his tournament will end as well. However, the 35-year-old has spoken nothing about it yet, and hopefully, he is fine.
Novak Djokovic & Marin Cilic practicing on Center Court. Not normally a big deal but for Wimbledon it is, as it’s the 1st time competitors have been allowed to practice on the hallowed surface before the event starts. In my time coming here, at least. Good move by the club. pic.twitter.com/BBYRnLgYrN

After a shaky start to his tournament, the defending champion will look to regain his flow in the second-round match. Djokovic will be up against Australian tennis player Thanasi Kokkinakis. However, it could be a tough challenge for the world number three as Kokkinakis has looked in good form. The Australian cruised to a comfortable ?7-6 (5), 6-2, 7-5 victory over Poland?s Kamil Majchrzak on Monday. Notably, the 26-year-old is the only Australian left in the tournament.
This was the Aussie’s fifth attempt to make it to the second round in the Wimbledon Championships. Making slow progress, the 26-year-old who didn’t qualify in two attempts and faced two first-round exits will finally play in the second round for the first time in his career. However, overcoming the 6-time Wimbledon Champion will certainly be the biggest challenge of his career.
