Alexander Bublik started his run for the title in Madrid on a good note. The tennis star, who was struggling with his form for a long time, finally added a win to his record by defeating the Spaniard Roberto Carballes Baena in a highly intense three-setter competition. While it is generally Bublik who is known to lose his cool during the match, the anger was seen on the other side of the court this time.

During his inaugural match against the clay court expert Baena, Bublik had to dodge a raging ball that was aimed directly toward his face. The match seemed to be going in favor of the Spaniard as he easily managed to get the first set in his name. However, the Spanish crowd had to witness a change in the air as Bublik gave all he had to steal the second set and therefore continued to maintain his dominance.

The match started to gain more intensity and finally took a turn when Baena found it hard to contain his frustration of losing against the Kazakh and therefore shot the ball with full power, aiming it towards his face. Renowned journalist Jose Morgado, who is known to keep track of the details, clearly mentioned the fact that the act of frustration was completely intentional.

“When Roberto Carballes intentionally tried to hit Bublik twice with his serve… My lord,” he wrote on X, resharing a video clip that shows a glimpse of the heated moment. Bublik, who frequently finds himself indulged in controversies, kept calm and managed to handle the situation with ease by not reacting fiercely to it.

As the Kazakh finally won a match after facing first-round defeats at Indian Wells and Miami, it still remains to be seen if he will be able to regain the momentum. With his upcoming match against the young American Ben Shelton, it is surely going to be a tough challenge.
