It was his coach, Juan Carlos Ferrero, whose emotional reaction had fans melting.

The Spanish sensation defeated World No. 1 Jannik Sinner in a very close match at the China Open, 6-7(6), 6-4, 7-6(3). This was his third victory against the Italian dynamo this season and his fourth tour-level trophy that he clinched this year. While emotions were at their peak after Alcaraz’s win, clear evidence was seen in his box where his coach Juan Carlos Ferrero was seen crying over the success of the player.

Interestingly, Alcaraz was also asked if he is aware of the reason behind his coach’s meltdown, to which he responded, “I guess he got emotional at the end because we all know what we went through the last month or the last two months. It was a really difficult moment on the court, off the court.” These statements indeed sparked emotional reactions from the fans as well.

He prepares you with all his experience throughout the year, these are his tears of happiness,” highlighting the importance of this win. Remember, Alcaraz has made his coach proud on multiple occasions including the French Open and Wimbledon. After every win, he has been spotted rushing to Ferrero and celebrating it with him. He again credited his long-time coach after his win in Beijing. 

Speaking in the post-match interview, Alcaraz said, “Thanks to them (Ferrero and his team) I started to get the joy back playing the matches, practicing, I got motivated again.” More such reactions continued to follow on social media. 

Responding to the post, one X user wrote, “Juan Carlos Ferrero, you’re the goat.” Remember, Ferrero has been guiding Alcaraz since the latter was just 15. Since then, he has not just helped the young star with skills and techniques, but also finances. In a statement that Alcaraz’s agent Albert Molina made, he admitted that Ferrero agreed to coach the Spaniard despite not being paid much. The top-tier coach understood the financial situation of a growing talent and agreed to train him at a much lower price. Meanwhile, more X users joined in the fray.

There are times when I’m purely his coach, but at other times I’m his friend.”

One more user responded to the post and wrote, “Oh carlitos 💔,” signifying the tough times that Alcaraz and his team overcame. The Spaniard failed to achieve significantly at the American hard courts this season. While he was ousted in his first match itself at the Cincinnati Masters, he witnessed a major setback at the US Open too, and was defeated in the second round. Hence, overcoming these heartbreaks was essential for the star player and the win over Sinner did just that.
