It is said, you must not leave the stage for too long. And what happens if you do? Well, America’s tennis icon, Reilly Opelka is the answer to that right now. After being riddled with injuries last season, Opelka did not make an appearance on the court in 2023. However, that has not stopped the tennis player from enjoying his life. He explored his various interests during this period, which includes, but isn’t limited to fashion. As of now, tennis fans on Reddit are into a hubbub over one Opelka throwback.

A fan account by the username @onlyshallow has posted a video of Reilly from two of his matches. In the video, he is doing what he does best on the court- serve. And talking about his power stroke, the fan has made a snarky comment stating Opelka is not a tennis player anymore. He has turned his attention to fashion. This is the cause of quite a debacle amongst Reilly fans since the post went viral hours ago.

Reilly Opelka renounces tennis to make a career in fashion- Reddit

To say that Opelka is a popular servebot in contemporary tennis would be an understatement. At 6ft 11 inches tall, Opelka can dumbfound even the very seasoned of players with his long-range serves. In his 2023 resolution checklist, Reilly also took a dig at himself to mention that he would like to break serves 7% of the time!

The video that went viral today is of Opelka from two of his matches. One against Spanish Bautista Agut and the other against the Russian Octopus, Medvedev. In both matches, Opelka is acing the game with his master serves. So much so that Medvedev slams his racket after the loss.

The video went viral with the caption, “Former tennis player Reilly Opelka shows the beauty of servebotting. He is now pursuing a career as a fashion model”.

Tennis fans found the post within hours and as usual, their comments weren’t very pretty for Opelka.

“First Sharapova and now him. We are losing too many to the Fashion industry lol,”

Another fan comments about Opelka’s Twitter fiascos and says how he is “really committed to making a fool of himself on Twitter.

To this, a fan has replied, “He deleted his twitter account a while ago, only needs ig for his fashion career”

Fans have trolled Opelka and called him a “clown”.

Others have justified his interest in fashion and made a point to mention that he has the height to be a model.

“Fashion models are normally tall people”

“Definitely more and easy money in fashion than in tennis.. tennis players are paid a pittance except if u r top 20 for a long time”

All that’s viral, is not always vital

However, fans have also come forth to clear the whole debacle up. They have shed some clarity for the confused audience about Opelka’s retirement. They said that he is simply flexing his flair at fashion events and has not officially retired from tennis.
