It has been a season of two halves for Carlos Alcaraz. While he won the French Open and the Wimbledon Championships titles earlier this season, the Spanish sensation didn’t have the best of ending to the season. He suffered a shock defeat at the US Open in the second round and a group-stage exit at the ATP Finals. As a result, Alcaraz, once ranked Number 1, has dropped to the third spot on the ATP rankings chart. However, the worst is yet to come to Alcaraz, according to the legendary American star, Sam Querrey.
While form has been a concern for Alcaraz of late, he has also suffered from injuries and poor health. Earlier this month, he had breathing issues at the year-end ATP Finals, which potentially led him to lose two of his three Group Stage matches against Casper Ruud and Alexander Zverev. Going by the recent times, Querrey predicts struggles will continue for Carlos Alcaraz next year. In terms of injuries and ultimately rankings!
On November 20th, a new clip of Nothing Major Podcast dropped on its official Instagram handle where Querrey made a wild guess on “Will Carlos Alcaraz finish outside the Top 4 in 2025? 🤨”. Querrey went on to reveal, “This might sound crazy…I have like lost a little faith in him here of late. I see him ending the next year at like #5 in the world. I’m betting that Alcaraz will end the next year at #4 or worse.”

Additionally, the American legend also predicted that Alcaraz would continue to have injury struggles due to the hectic schedule that he continues to have. “It can only give a major injury. Bet is void. He’s ranked #3 right now for christ’s sake. It’s not like he is #2 and like dominating the others.

Over the course of this season, Carlos Alcaraz has played continuously tournament after tournament. As a result, the effects of it were seen on his health as his coach, Juan Carlos Ferrero, revealed a dreadful update earlier this month at the ATP Finals.
He said, “As soon as he moves a bit, he finds it hard to breathe. He has tightness in his chest. A bad time to fall ill. We can’t predict whether he will play tomorrow or not. We’ve all played under these circumstances. I don’t think it will get to the point of not playing, but it will be difficult for him to be at 100% tomorrow.”

However, Querrey wasn’t the only one who felt that Alcaraz was getting stretched on the court. Even Andy Roddick made a concerning remark on Alcaraz’s schedule.
Andy Roddick rallies behind Carlos Alcaraz amid health issues
The Spaniard was seen wearing a nasal strip every time he went on to the court at the ATP Finals in Turin due to breathing difficulties. Subsequently, he also participated in the Davis Cup Finals, which was Rafael Nadal’s last tournament. Despite not being 100% fit, the Spaniard played two matches at the Davis Cup Finals. Although Roddick lauded Alcaraz for his determination, he sounded caution for Alcaraz.

Roddick revealed, “Mentally, I felt he was there a little bit more. The breath white strip that he’s wearing, sounds like someone who is sick. But props to him, he has two Slams this year, he has Davis Cup which is Rafa’s farewell coming up. So it would be very easy for him to take a pass this event, especially after losing the first match. So props to him for staying there, he’s not 100% and missing more than he usually does.”
Nonetheless, Alcaraz gave his all against the Netherlands in the Davis Cup tie. Alcaraz leveled the tie with a victory in the second singles match after Nadal’s opening loss. However, Spain ultimately lost the deciding doubles match, resulting in a 2-1 defeat. While Querrey has predicted a major downgrade for Alcaraz, the Spanish sensation would like to prove him wrong and make a strong comeback next year.
