Over the years, the 20-time Grand Slam champion has been involved in philanthropic activities in Africa and other places. Specifically, he has focused on underprivileged children by providing them with the basic necessities they were missing out on. This earned special praise from Janine Händel, the CEO of his foundation.
Talking about Federer in the book The Roger Federer Effect, she said, “He plays along immediately, gets involved and is integrated within a short time. With Roger, the children lose their inhibitions. That is not a foregone conclusion. These children are not used to strangers and certainly not to people of white skin. Roger can open people’s hearts and minds at the touch of a button. Children, but also adults. That is impressive for me to see. Usually, those children are afraid of strangers and have even burst into tears with her.”
Further, she added, “But Roger knows how to win the trust of the children and the kindergarten teachers. He meets everyone at eye level, and they sense that he likes and respects them. People feel taken seriously by him.”
Not only has he worked for social causes in Africa but also other countries across the globe. Earlier this year, he made a giant-hearted move in his home country.
