Andy Murray and Jamie Delgado, who had been working together for over five years, have decided to end their partnership ahead of the 2022 tennis summer in Australia.

Delgado began working with Murray in 2016 and has stood by him through thick and thin. Towards the end of the ATP season this year, the Brit managed to play consistent tennis and stunned the likes of Frances Tiafoe, Hubert Hurkacz, and other young players.

Andy Murray decides to split up with coach Jamie Delgado

Murray decided to replace Delgado with Jan De Witt and is currently in a trial run at the National Tennis Centre at Roehampton, London. De Witt has previously worked with the likes of Gilles Simon and Gael Monfils. If the trial goes well, we could see Jan De Witt in Murray’s box at the Australian Open next year.

Coming to Delgado, the British coach will be joining Denis Shapovalov as his coach. The Canadian was mentored by Mikhail Youzhny for some portion of this season.

For sure, Delgado’s experience of being in team Murray when he clinched the Wimbledon title and also the year-end no.1 in 2016 will benefit a young talent like Shapovalov.

Murray enjoyed success in the latter half of his 2021 season

Looking back at Murray’s 2021 season, he managed to put up decent performances in the first half of the season, but it was the second half that witnessed Murray almost turning back the clock and showed a piece of his experience to numerous youngsters.

Even though the Brit wasn’t able to win a title this year, his immense grit made sure he pushed his opponents to their limit and didn’t give up the fight till the end. The association with Delgado would have been more personal for Murray, as the coach was by his side for two hip operations.

Delgado initially joined team Murray as an assistant coach to Ivan Lendl in 2016 and later became a permanent coach to the Brit in 2017.
