Swiss legend Roger Federer is being honored at the Shanghai Masters today. He won the tournament twice, once in 2014 and then again in 2017. That is why when the tennis tournaments started happening again in China after the pandemic, the director of the tournament decided to honor the two-time former champion.

This is not only a big deal for Roger himself but also for his fans who love to see him on the court. Today during his speech while he was at the tournament, Roger shared his one lifelong dream that he has had and was able to fulfil only after he retired.

During his speech with his fans, Roger Federer talked about a lot of things, especially about tennis and his second love: skiing.

He shared, “I miss the tour, the tournaments, the public, but life is going well. I was able to go skiing for the first time in 15 years and with my children, which was my dream for a long time.”

Now that he is retired, he definitely has no work commitments like he did in tennis. This allows him to travel the world with his family, which he loves to do. Due to this, he is now able to ski as well which he was not able to do earlier.

Being a true Swiss, skiing is an integral part of Roger’s life and culture. But he wasn’t able to do it frequently. It was in 2008 when he went skiing for the first time but a tragic thing happened which did not allow him to return for 15 years.

Roger was hit by mono after the first time he went skiing

The first time Roger went skiing was in 2008. After he returned from his adventure, he got mono. So due to his recovery time, he could not go skiing again. And later, his kids were born so he could not take them skiing so young. It was always his dream that his kids could see him skiing.

It was after 15 years, in 2023, that he was able to go again with his whole family and enjoy the sport he loves as much as he loves tennis if not more.
