In the tennis world, the Adidas Barricade has been one of the most iconic tennis shoes of the sport. Now, 20 years after its initial release, they are finally back. And what’s more, Austrian ace Dominic Thiem will wear them during his title defense campaign at the US Open 2021.
Interestingly, the shoes for the current World No. 6 will also carry the US Open colors. Thiem even gave a sneak peek of the kicks while talking about tennis in a recent Instagram video.

Dominic Thiem unveils shoes for US Open 2021
In a recent Adidas Tennis Instagram video, Thiem revealed his happiness with the Barricade’s return. Additionally, he also detailed his expectations from his shoes and how important they are in his game.
“I’m so happy the Barricade is back because it’s such a legendary shoe. Footwork is a big part of my game. From my shoes, I am expecting comfort, speed, and stability,” Dominic said.
Furthermore, the reigning US Open champion reflected on the mental aspect of the sport. Thiem also shared some fundamental advice for everyday tennis players.
He said, “Tennis is such a mental game because I have to be on court for up to 4 or 5 hours without any support. I try to always have the same routine to really get myself into the zone. The best advice for everyday tennis player is to have fun on court, never give up, and believe in yourself until the very last point.”
Nearly two months ago, the 27-year-old Austrian injured his wrist and had to skip the Wimbledon Championships and the lead-up events for the US Open 2021. However, he has now recovered fully and is looking forward to defending his only Grand Slam title in New York.

What are Thiem’s chances at the US Open 2021?

Considering his performances in 2021, Thiem is yet to find his rhythm on the court. However, he is optimistic about putting out his best which is good news.
The Austrian will need something special to overcome the likes of Novak Djokovic, Daniil Medvedev, and others who have done well on hard courts. While winning a Grand Slam is hard, defending it is an even bigger challenge.

And given Thiem’s recent absence from the Tour, the task has only gotten mightier. It will be interesting to see whether Thiem can defy all odds and claim his second major tournament title in New York.
