Team Europe is primed for a fierce comeback on home soil at the 2024 Laver Cup, fueled by the sting of two consecutive losses to Team World. With high stakes in the competition, they aim to reclaim their title and restore their dominance, featuring a powerhouse lineup that includes Carlos Alcaraz, Daniil Medvedev, Alexander Zverev, Grigor Dimitrov, Casper Ruud, and Stefanos Tsitsipas. And for Tsitsipas, this year marks his fourth appearance at the Laver Cup.
During an interview, Stefanos Tsitsipas reflected on his journey and expressed his excitement about playing in Berlin, a city he has only visited as a tourist before. “Unfortunately, you don’t get any tour events,” he noted, highlighting the unique opportunity that the Laver Cup presents to showcase tennis in places where it isn’t typically exposed.

Team Europe faced a harsh reality check in the 2023 Laver Cup, as they succumbed to Team World in a staggering 13-2 defeat, marking one of the most lopsided results in the tournament’s history. However, now as the 2024 Laver Cup gets closer, Stefanos Tsitsipas stands determined, ready to help Team Europe in their quest for redemption.
“I do want to get it back for sure,” Tsitsipas declared. Undoubtedly, the sting of last year’s defeat still lingers, and he even recalled conversations with teammates who were left disheartened after their loss. “They were pretty bu*med out about losing that one,” he said, “Part of my job is to come out there and get that trophy back. We deserve it. We have a good team”
Tsitsipas acknowledged the weight of expectation that rests on their shoulders. Reclaiming the trophy is not just a personal ambition; it’s a collective mission now. Since the tournament’s inception in 2017, Team Europe has claimed the title four times. However, they faced a historic defeat in 2022 as Team World claimed their first title with a 13-8 victory, led by Frances Tiafoe’s stunning win over Tsitsipas himself. It was then followed by another dominating performance by Team World in 2023.
Despite having been beaten twice in 2022 and 2023, Team Europe resurfaces with a refreshed state of mind and players, as they hope to take back their title. Apart from Tsitsipas though, there is another player who is bringing an air of intrigue and excitement to the competition: Carlos Alcaraz.
