Alex de Minaur has battled his way back into the sport! It’s a win-win situation for the 24-year-old Australian tennis player and his team playing in the Davis Cup. Currently, before ending the year, he is playing the team event and representing his country in the tournament. Australia has made its place in the semi-finals of the tournament by defeating the Czech Republic.

There was a moment in the match when everything seemed confusing, but it was Alex de Minaur who turned the tables and made a monumental comeback into the game. Following a significant win for his nation, he discussed the moment he gained the advantage to tip the scales in his favor.

Just a game before the elimination, Australia found a way to get back into the tournament, as the 24-year-old made victory possible. Apparently, he has kept the hope of ending the 20-year Davis Cup title drought alive by defeating Jiri Lehecka. The victory at first seemed impossible for the Australian player, but after the second set, he changed the flow of the game.

After the match, during a post-match press conference, he opened up about the monumental comeback that literally helped the team. He said, “It’s been a very long year, right? I think it would have been quite easy for me to roll over under the circumstances, but that’s just not the type of player I am. I’m always going to fight until the end.”

Along with that, he highlighted how he, as a player, has been through a lot of difficult circumstances on the court but has always made his way out of the problems. He added, “I kind of got a little sniff. I was able to kind of play a solid game there (trailing 4-5 in the second set), and after that, I felt like the whole momentum kind of changed.”

Just like last year, Australia has this year also reached the semi-finals round of the tournament. Not only that, even the Australian team captain talked about the comeback that brought the entire team back on the grid.

Alex de Minaur saved his team in the Davis Cup

After the thrilling match, Australian captain Lleyton Hewitt, in a press conference, praised the 24-year-old and applauded his actions that saved them. He said, “For him to go out there and put the boys on his back again, we’re so proud of him. He had to dig really deep and yet again he saved us.”

Along with that, he also talked about how the former world number 11 carries a never-say-die attitude, which is something that he is also living with. The 12th-seeded player broke back at 3-5 down in the second set and then broke serves at 5-5 in the final set after forcing a tiebreaker.
