The 2023 ATP World Tour Finals has seen it all. From high-end tennis drama to injuries, it has been an eventful week in the tennis world. Hours earlier, Greek star, Stefanos Tsitsipas, withdrew from the tournament due to an injury. He started his match against Holger Rune but pulled out midway. Subsequently, he was replaced by Hubert Hurkacz in what was a last-minute replacement. The Polish tennis star is currently playing Novak Djokovic and a shocking stat has emerged about him.

Hurkacz has had a mediocre season by his standards. He has won just 2 titles this season. Let’s find out what is at stake for him today.

While his match was underway in Turin, a post went viral on social media citing the prize money Hurkacz would earn if he defeated Novak Djokovic. The Polish star will earn $390,000 in prize money if he is successful in the ongoing contest.

That equates to around 10% of what he has won throughout the entire 2023 season! ($3,750,925). The ATP World Tour Finals is a prestigious tournament having the best eight players in the season. As a result, the prize money on offer even after winning a single match is very high as compared to other ATP tournaments.

While the call-up to play in the year-ending championship may have come out of the blue, Hurkacz will be looking to make it big of this opportunity presented to him. On the other hand, Djokovic will hope that this stat doesn’t become true as his qualification chances for the semifinals hang by a thread.

How will Novak Djokovic qualify for the semifinals?

Despite a bright start, the World Number 1 lost out to Jannik Sinner in his second match. As a result, the Italian star has almost qualified for the semifinals in Turin.

Djokovic needs to defeat Hurkacz and hope that Rune loses against Sinner to safely qualify for the last 4. However, if the Serb loses, he will have to pray for Sinner’s victory against Rune. Other scenarios are also possible but Djokovic’s victory in straight sets will guarantee him a semifinal berth.
