Frances Tiafoe‘s breakthrough season was hugely lauded by the entire sporting realm as he defeated some of the big names in the tennis circuit. Considering the praise he has received till now, the American tennis star is eager to maintain the same momentum during this season as well. After his disappointing early-round defeat in the clay court major event, the former world No. 11 is trying to make amends during the ongoing Stuttgart Open.

In the quarterfinal round against Lorenzo Musetti, Tiafoe showed off some of his exquisite game styles, which made his recent form fairly evident. Surprisingly, instead of claiming glory for those shots, he said he was just having some fun with the Italian tennis player.

Frances Tiafoe makes a surprising revelation after his incredible victory at the Stuttgart Open

The current world No. 12 started the grass-court season with some remarkable performances at the ongoing BOSS Open. Frances Tiafoe made his debut in the Stuttgart ATP 250 event with an incredible win over the Czech tennis player, Jiri Lehecka. Later, he was all set up for an exciting quarterfinal clash against the Italian tennis star, Lorenzo Musetti.

It was the American tennis player who prevailed in a nail bitting two-hour, 42-minute match on the grass court of the Stuttgart Open. Tiafoe managed to make a remarkable comeback after having a shaky start to the game as he dropped the first set, 7-6(2). Thereafter, the former world No. 11  showcased his aggressive side to clinch a victory, 6-7(6), 7-6(4), 6-2, against his 21-year-old ATP peer.

Meanwhile, the entire tennis community was stunned to witness the extreme level of backspin on the shots of the American player. Taking note of the same, the official Instagram page of BOSS Open hailed Tiafoe in the caption of their post, “Level of backspin”.

Surprisingly, Tiafoe later revealed that it was a low-key performance since he was just having some fun with his opponent. On his Instagram story, he said, “just having fun w it,” while he shared the video clip of his exquisite shots.

Who will Tiafoe face in the next round of the Stuttgart Open?

After leveling his ATP Head2Head series against the Italian, the current world No. 12 player is now set up for another exciting clash of the grass-court event. Tiafoe will now square off against the in-form Hungarian tennis player,  Márton Fucsovics in the semifinals of the tournament.
