Andre Agassi and Pete Sampras used to rule the courts in their playing days. They often challenged each other for major titles. However, they were completely different in every aspect. From their playing style and presence on the court to their eating habits. While Sampras was the ideal tennis professional, Agassi was the little twist that adds fun to the sport.

The eight times Grand Slam champion, unlike his rival, showed emotions on the court. In fact, one can say, he, in a way, introduced rage to the otherwise gentleman-like sport. Though the most out-of-the-box thing about him was his addiction to fast food. It fascinated fans and even Sampras.

Andre Agassi, the junk food lover

In the year 1992, Sampras revealed the massive and regular junk intake of Agassi. He detailed how in 1988, the veteran dined at McDonald’s every day and gave the credit, of him reaching the semifinal of the French Open, to the food. “He thinks that’s why he did so well,” Sampras said.

Also, he shared how Agassi ordered a cheeseburger on his flight to the US Open and loved eating candies. As a response to this piece of information, fans flooded social media.

While some found it funny and intriguing and wrote, This is so funny considering it’s Agassi and with how healthy he’s always seemed to be”

 

Others found the fact aligned with his other not-so-common traits.

Another Agassi fan took a different take on the matter by mentioning, “Junk food is better than no food.”

Agassi and Sampras’ rivalry

The former World No 1s have locked horns a total of 34 times, out of which the 14 times Grand slam champion, Sampras, who hung his racket in prior to Agassi, claimed a lead of 20 matches. They first met in the clay courts of Rome and there Agassi took down Sampras in straight sets of 6-2 6-1.

Thereafter, the back and forth of lead between them continued for years and then finally ended in 2002. The match not only marked the end of their rivalry but also presented the end of five-time US Open champion Sampras’ career. He out-muscled Agassi one last time in the hard courts of America with a 6-3 6-4 5-7 6-4 score.
