The 20-year-old Spaniard took down Serbian tennis legend Novak Djokovic in a grueling five-set final at Wimbledon recently. This consequently has made him the talk of the town. The comparison with the ‘Big 3’ is common but does he have it in him to do what they did – Patrick McEnroe presents his view.
On the podcast The Jim Rome Show, Patrick McEnroe evaluated Alcaraz’s run. He stated, “The bigger question is, can he get closer to ’20’?” Talking about what his priority is going to be, he added, “Health is gonna be no. 1. He is so explosive. He is so quick.”
Following that, he gave an NFL example to compare how Alcaraz’s performance has dumbfounded the tennis realm. He stated, “It’s almost like an unbelievable running back that comes into the NFL that you’re like, woah this guy is almost running so hard and he can get by so many people.”
However, he also put another perspective into the picture and added, “And you wonder how long he can last. That’s the thing he is gonna have to learn.”?
This is something the Big 3 have made sure to adhere to. All the top players continued their peak form even after turning 30 which has led their Grand Slam titles’ count to go up till and beyond 20.
For Alcaraz, fighting his temptations every single day is one way to do it.
