Brothers are the best supporters of each other. In the tennis circuit, one pair of brothers who have had each other’s back is John McEnroe and Patrick McEnroe. Although neither of them is an active player, John has been the famous McEnroe sibling. As a former World No. 1 with 7 Grand Slam titles, and a famous rivalry with Björn Borg and Jimmy Connors, the ‘Super bratof the British media has had an astounding career on the court. However, John has added another honor to his long list, and Patrick was in the front to congratulate his brother!

Since his retirement, the former World No.1 has been a frequent visitor at the major tennis tournaments, though awards have been relatively elusive for the American tennis legend. Amidst the ongoing intensive French Open tournament, John McEnroe has found all the reasons to smile! Though not because of the quality of matches at the clay court, but due to the honor that was bestowed on him recently by French President Emmanuel Macron.

The sSuper brat of tennis was awarded the French Legion of Honour, the highest order of merit in France. Moreover, during the ceremony, the President praised John for his contribution. And said, “You are a legend of world sport, one of the greatest of all time.”

And to celebrate his brother’s massive feat, Patrick took to X to congratulate him. In awe of his elder brother, he wrote, So so cool. Congrats bro !!!” Certainly, the former World No.1 is on the list of the GOAT, and now he has the seal of approval from the president himself! Moreover, many tennis fans might be unaware of the fact that John was awarded ITF’s highest honour back in 2007, the Philippe Chatrier Award for his contributions both on and off the court! Truly a decorated tennis personality.

John McEnroe has been the center of attraction since his professional tennis days. Either for his famous rivalries, his skills comprising of strong continental grips and agility on the court, and certainly the infamous racquet-throwing controversies. Although he is no longer an active player, it didn’t stop him from entertaining tennis fans with a different skill set!

At the beginning of the Clay Court swing of the tennis calendar, the American tennis legend took the court to entertain fans present at Indian Wells. He treated them with a musical along with his daughter! John, with his band Johnny Smyth Band, was back in the action, after their debut in 2023. The eldest McEnroe sibling made his debut as a guitarist and performed some classical last year.

Moreover in an interview, a few years back, McEnroe opened up about his love for music, post his retirement from the professional circuit. He said,Well after I stopped playing, I was working on some songs and playing with other people. And that led to;Hey, we should write original songs.”
