The name Andre Agassi always comes up when discussing the history of men’s tennis. The legendary American tennis player won eight Grand Slam singles titles throughout his career and has an Olympic gold medal to his name.

However, he was constantly criticized for being inconsistent throughout his career. Having seen many ups and downs in his career has opened the door to several accusations against Agassi. Similarly, during one such incident, his rival and compatriot, Jimmy Connors, once talked about Agassi’s weight, to which the latter had a thing or two to say sarcastically.

Andre Agassi’s witty reply to Jimmy Connors’ comments

In 2012, Andre Agassi and his former fitness trainer Gil Reyes were in conversation with Club Industry. During the conversation, the interviewer recalled an incident where Jimmy Connors talked about Agassi gaining weight during his changeover. The 8-time Grand Slam winner replied humorously, saying, “Jimmy Connors has never said something nice about me.

Based on their match histories, Connors and Agassi faced each other twice during their respective careers. Both were in the semi-finals of the US Open, and on both occasions, Agassi won. While the first meeting occurred in 1988, the second one happened, a year later, in 1989. There was a time when several people began to speculate that Agassi had copied Connors’ style of play after observing him.

Andre Agassi and his stunning career record

The tennis veteran was widely regarded as the game’s top returner for years. He was one of the few who could hold his own against 14-time Grand Slam champion Pete Sampras.

Back in 1999, he was at the pinnacle of his career. For the first time, the American won the French Open that year, and he continued to dominate in Australia for the next three years. In addition to his Olympic gold medal, Andre Agassi won 60 singles titles during his career.
