Jimmy Connors Cites Novak Djokovic’s Will to Learn From Failure as the Key Behind His Record-Breaking Triumph in Turin

Jannik Sinner shocked the world when he beat Novak Djokovic in the round-robin stages of the ATP Finals. However, the Djoker was able to take revenge quickly as he beat the young Italian in the final. Now, the two are set to face each other again in the Davis Cup and have to come up with new strategies. Djokovic has a great team, which helps him analyze how he can triumph over a player again and again. For Sinner, Jimmy Connors believes there’s a lot left to learn, and Djokovic received a blessing when he lost to the Italian player.

Fans have seen the spectacle of Djokovic overcoming those who beat him by various means. They could see it when Djokovic started training against Carlos Alcaraz after his Wimbledon loss, which reminded them of a similar move with Stan Wawrinka.

Novak Djokovic’s loss blessing in disguise 

The entire world saw Djokovic lose to Sinner in their round-robing bout of the ATP Finals. A chance for revenge was set up perfectly in the final, and Djokovic grasped it tightly. As per Jimmy Connors, it became a blessing in disguise for the Serbian star. 

Now, Sinner has a similar chance as Serbia will face Italy in the Davis Cup. However, Connors believes that Sinner doesn’t have the factor to win against a big player soon after a loss.

 During the ‘Advantage Connors’ podcast, he said, “You said it is tough to come back because you know, Djoker doesn’t take that stuff lightly. He learned from that from that loss. He picked up a few things. Sinner’s still young, he was, I don’t know, even though he’s got good coaching. You know, you got to pick up on a few things that that ‘Okay, I lost this match. So what am I gonna have to do now? You know, to beat him three days later?’.”

Djokovic employs many strategies when he wants to overcome a player. One of his ways, believed by fans, is to train with one particular player constantly. It proved to be true once, and fans believe it can happen once again.

Wawrinka began growing during his early thirties. During his prime, he had become one of the most dangerous players and even beat Djokovic in two slam finals. Since then, the Serbinator often asked for Wawrinka to train with him before tournaments, and before one could realize it, he was back to being the dominant player in their rivalry. Now, Djokovic often trains more with Alcaraz.

Since he lost against the young Spaniard in the Wimbledon final, many tennis fans believe that he is using a similar strategy. It has proven to be true as Alcaraz has not managed to win against the Serbian in any of their following matches. They will surely play against each other many more times. Now, only time will tell if Sinner and Alcaraz have what it takes to overcome the 24-time grand slam champion.
