Jannik Sinner's love life getting Jimmy Connors' nod—Does this boost his game or distract him?

Romance is in the air for Jannik Sinner! The Italian superstar has been spotted vacationing with his girlfriend and fellow tennis player Anna Kalinskaya in Italy. In hopes of unwinding before the second half of the 2024 season which witnesses the American hardcourt swing, the couple has flown off to Sardinia.

Subsequently, the duo’s recent outing prompted a reaction from former tennis professional Jimmy Connors. While it is certain that the World No. 1 has earned himself a relaxing getaway, Connors backed the former’s decision. He extensively talked about the very reason that signifies Sinner’s off-time with his girlfriend Kalinskaya.

While appearing on his podcast, ‘Advantage Connors‘, the former American No. 1 highlighted that the Italian was in dire need of a vacation after constantly touring the circuit in hopes of solidifying his stances in the ATP. “You know, maybe that’s what he needed. He needed to get away and have a break and relax a little bit and come in fresh as opposed to being worn out.”

Furthermore, the 71-year-old stressed the importance of a vacation, claiming the same helps players rejuvenate and keep up with the hectic men’s tennis roster. “You know, after Wimbledon, go into play another clay court tournament, and continue the grind. That’s the importance of everybody knowing their own body. And their own attitude towards what it takes for them to play the best tennis possible for them.”

While Russian tennis star Kalinskaya was forced to retire from the women’s fourth round, 22-year-old Sinner had to seek an off-court medical intervention after experiencing severe discomfort in his wrist during his quarterfinal encounter against Daniil Medvedev. This, in turn, potentially led to the conclusion of his SW19 campaign. Later, the Italian addressed his injury scare, notably stating that he felt dizzy during his QF showdown. “The physio told me better to take some time because he watched me, and I didn’t seem in shape to play. I didn’t vomit. But took some time because I was dizzy quite a lot.”

Although the duo hasn’t cited any major issues stemming from their incident at Wimbledon, their ongoing vacation will likely help them recover for the season’s final Major, the US Open.
