Jannik Sinner might be at the top of tennis right now, but he certainly isn’t a jack of all trades. A player who takes two Grand Slam victories this season might be expected to excel at other sports too. But that certainly isn’t the case for the Italian. Jannik Sinner recently had a bad day of golfing – proving court hero isn’t much of a star on course. His failure drew a cheeky response from his coach and father, whose lighthearted reactions showcased why it is important to embrace fun at times to keep the wheels of motivation running.
Sinner finished his impressive 2024 season by clinching two important titles: The ATP Finals in Turin and Davis Cup. He also won two Grand Slams: the 2024 Australian Open and the 2024 US Open. The Italian player’s dominance on the court was unparalleled, with an inspiring record of 73-6 – an impressive 92.4% victory rate. The Italian ATP star cemented his position as ATP number one and led his country to retain the Davis Cup trophy. Yet, despite his brilliant tennis skills, Jannik Sinner realized that his talents didn’t carry over to every sport. A lighthearted attempt at golf became the highlight of Siinner’s vacation, bringing laughter and adorable memories.
His coach, Darren Cahill, recently shared a humorous IG reel capturing Sinner’s struggles on the golf course. The video showed the ATP star attempting to hit a golf ball but instead hitting the ground. “Hey, what do I hit the floor with? This is hard!” Sinner exclaimed, his playful smile showcased he was enjoying the moment. His father, watching nearby, burst into laughter, adding more fun to the cheerful environment. Sinner’s coach humorously captioned the video, “Swinging into vacation like…. @janniksin,” accompanied by laughing emojis that mirrored everyone’s funny reactions.

Interestingly, this wasn’t Jannik Sinner’s first attempt with golf. Last year in August, right after his ATP Masters 1000 win in Canada, the Italian spoke about his growing interest in the sport. In an interview with an Italian newspaper, he shared the surprising story behind his newfound passion for golf leaving the fraternity quite amused!
Jannik Sinner confessed why he started playing golf
Sinner’s golfing skills are surely not as good as his tennis skills. However, that is not his point for choosing the sport. Speaking to journalist Corriere della Sera, Sinner said, “I’m really poor but I like it, it allows me to disconnect while remaining immersed in nature. My coach Darren Cahill plays, my father too: in Holland, in ‘s-Hertogenbosh, he drove up with clubs. I tried too. At first I didn’t understand anything, then Darren gave me two tips. I forget my cell phone and relax: there’s something different from the usual tennis.” His statement revealed his knowledge about his form and how he uses this sport as a relaxation method. Given that his coach and father play golf, it is a bonus for the Italian to practice it.
Nevertheless, Jannik Sinner’s golfing skills left his supporters in splits. As much as they admired the Italian’s spirit and skills in tennis, they understood he needs to go a long way to master golf. Nevertheless, his spirit and interest made the fraternity happy showing how the Italian never fails to lose motivation about the things that attract him.
