Is it fair that Alejandra was banned from the show while Judy Murray got to participate?

Behind every successful tennis player is an ever-supportive partner. For Jamie Murray, Andy Murray’s brother, it is his wife, Alejandra Murray. However, Alejandra Murray, who supports Murray in all his endeavors, has one condition! In a surprising revelation, Murray expressed how his wife would never be by her husband’s side in one particular arena, a stance that Andy Murray’s mother, Judy Murray, has already defied.

Strictly Come Dancing, a popular BBC series, lured the British tennis star Andy Murray’s mother, Judy Murray, to show her dancing skills almost a decade ago. A longtime fan of the show, Judy Murray seized the opportunity in 2014 to entertain the audience with her dance moves. However, Jamie Murray’s wife is firm in her decision not to let her husband do the same.

In an interview with The Daily Telegraph, Murray humorously explained the reason behind it, “No, no, my wife wouldn’t let me [appear on ‘Strictly’]. She’s an amazing dancer, being South American, but she doesn’t like it when they do the salsa or tango to pop music. She doesn’t think it’s pure.”

However, Alejandra Murray‘s restrictions might not have extended to her mother-in-law. Still, when Andy Murray’s mother performed in the show and showed the world that she could easily master both tennis and dancing, Alejandra Murray, a global marketing manager, might have changed her mind. Although she might not have been keen on watching her husband dance, when it comes to supporting him in tennis, she never backs down.

The former doubles World No. 1 is well aware that there are no restrictions in the realm of tennis. “She was a huge support, and probably the reason for me achieving what I’ve been able to in the past few years. I don’t know if I’d have [been world number one] if I hadn’t met her.” On the other hand, Judy Murray found her first time on the dance floor to be a challenging experience.

When Judy Murray, the tennis coach, who introduced both of her sons to tennis, first stepped onto the dance floor, she had second thoughts. Describing the experience, she said, “When we were [first] launched into the public eye, it was just the most enormous, weird thing that nobody prepared you for.”

Nevertheless, she continued her journey and later revealed the lessons she learned from it and how she intends to make a change through that.

Apart from training her sons, the 64-year-old Judy Murray wants to bring change to society.  Although she did not win the dance show, she recognized the importance of her participation. “It’s helped me a lot because I can now use my profile to encourage more girls to play,” Murray later expressed.

She also wanted to showcase a side of her personality unrelated to tennis, saying, “It let many more people see what I was like and see my personality. Before that, the bulk of the British public probably only saw me stressing out in the Player’s Box and thought, ‘She looks as miserable as sin’.”

Participation in the show had different meanings for Judy Murray and Alejandra Murray. However, their firm decisions provided fans with an entertaining glimpse into the lives of both Murray women.
