Swiss tennis maestro Roger Federer has admirers all over the world. The 41-year-old has a phenomenal record and an innocent charm. While he is great enough for anyone to become his fan, his humble nature makes people go crazy over him. One of the biggest fans of Roger Federer is the vogue magazine editor-in-chief, Anna Wintour. She wrote a long essay on Federer after the Swiss legend declared his retirement. While the 20-time Grand Slam champion has numerous fans around the world, not every one of them is lucky enough to get a chance to meet the legend in person. However, Anna had that privilege as a mutual friend arranged the meeting with her favorite tennis star.

Anna Wintour: A huge Roger Federer fan?

As per Tennis.com, Wintour first met the player in 2005. “I first met Roger Federer over lunch in the summer of 2005. He was in town to win the U.S. Open—his second in a five-year streak—and a mutual friend had arranged for us to meet at Keith McNally’s restaurant, Pastis, knowing that I was a fan.”

“I’ve endured agony when he’s been a set down and ecstasy when he’s stormed back.”

“I have even missed more than the occasional fashion show—all for the privilege of witnessing Roger play what is surely the greatest tennis of all time. … Everyone calls themselves Roger Federer fans. I consider myself a groupie.”

Federer declared his retirement in 2022 after playing one last time in the Laver Cup. He was away from the tour for a long time after his knee surgery and called it quits before returning for the Laver Cup. However, the legend has kept his fans’ wishes in mind and is set to appear in a special role at the Met Gala this year.

Nick Kyrgios recalls Federer’s absolute mastery on the tennis court

Roger Federer has made everyone his fan. The list also includes his rivals. Australian tennis star Nick Kyrgios has got an opportunity to face Federer in the early days of his career. The Aussie calls him the Greatest and most difficult opponent he faced on the court.

Kyrgios specified the ease with which Federer used to play tennis that he will put his opponent to shame. Further, the 27-year-old also lauded him for dominating on all kinds of surfaces all over the world.
