Serbian World No.1 Novak Djokovic is now one match away from winning the Calendar Grand Slam. Similarly, second seed Daniil Medvedev has hopes for grabbing his maiden Grand Slam title at the US Open 2021. Indeed, it will be one of the most historic Slam finals to transpire in the sport with high stakes for both the players.

Remarkably, the entire tennis fraternity is behind Djokovic, hoping to witness history. If he lifts the US Open title, he will have won all four major tournaments of 2021, completing the calendar-year Slam.

Daniil Medvedev does not care about Novak Djokovic’s calendar Slam

Firstly, the 25-year-old Russian acknowledged the risk of disrupting tennis history. However, Medvedev is himself a competitor and has his own goals to focus on.

“I think from my side if I can make this, I’ll probably be in the history books a little bit sour like not letting him do this,” Medvedev said. “But I don’t really care about it. I think it’s more about him.”

Furthermore, the 2019 US Open finalist explained how Djokovic would be under pressure in this match. In addition, he also stated how it could be a motivating factor for the Serb.

“It affects him because from one side, for sure he’s going to feel the pressure a little bit about it. From the other side, that’s what’s going to make him be even better in tough moments,” the Russian said.

Medvedev’s plan to stop Novak Djokovic in the US Open 2021 final

In the end, the Russian mentioned that Djokovic’s goals would not stop him from giving his best. Instead, he is looking forward to doing better than he did in the Australian Open 2021 final.

“I am just gonna throw at everything, and, definitely not gonna be thinking about the Grand Slam,” Medvedev concluded.
