Nadal, after lifting his 14th French Open title, stated that his foot injury might have some severe impact on his future in the sport. In fact, the Spaniard showed uncertainty about his presence in the upcoming Wimbledon Championship. Though a recent revelation from his ex-coach has provided hope of his presence to his fans.

Nadal’s former coach and uncle Toni Nadal cleared the clouds and gave a statement about his participation in the upcoming major. He said, “Yes, Rafael plays in Wimbledon. He is planning to train on the sidelines of the Mallorca Open from Monday.”

Thereafter, he added, “When we talked yesterday, he said it’s going much better. He wants to train. If he has a small chance, he will play at Wimbledon.”

The 22-time Grand Slam champion suffers from a chronic degenerative foot disorder known as the Muller-Weiss syndrome. The syndrome causes deformities in the mid-foot and hind foot region, leading to immense pain and deformities.

Further, the 36-year-old has been struggling with this issue since the initial years of his professional career. Nadal recently revealed that he was depending on anesthesia to help him fight his major battles. However, now he is looking for a permanent cure.

Toni and Rafael Nadal paired in the year 1990 and became the best duo in tennis. The former World No.1 debuted under Toni’s guidance and captured 16 major titles. Thus, making the player-coach duo the most successful in tennis history. Though they decided to part ways in 2017, they still remain as one of the most successful player-coach duo in the history of the sport.
