27-year-old Italian Matteo Berrettini is a joy to watch when he’s fit and performing at his best. However, it’s been some time since he has been in his prime form, and it looks like it’s going to take some more time for that to happen. Berrettini recently withdrew from the Italian Open owing to a stomach muscle issue, which makes his participation in the 2023 French Open doubtful. Even prior to his injury, his form was inconsistent, and many critics believe that his inconsistencies and current injury struggles are down to his girlfriend Melissa Satta.

However, despite what critics might believe, Satta is adamant that she is not to blame at all for Berrettini’s woes at the moment. The Italian TV presenter recently sat down for a candid interview with Vanity Fair and spoke her mind.

Satta lashes out at Matteo Berrettini critics

To be fair to Melissa Satta, she rarely speaks out regarding the harsh criticism she receives from the Italian press. However, on this occasion, Satta chose to let it all out. During her Vanity Fair interview, she was asked why she decided to do so.

In response, Satta said, “The headline of a newspaper: “Melissa Satta brings bad luck”, after the match at the Monte Carlo tournament in which Matteo won, but after which he stopped due to injury.” Satta went on to pose a thought-provoking question to critics, asking, “How can you write something like that? It is unethical.”

Critics have also targeted Satta for Berrettini’s ongoing stomach muscle problem. According to critics, the couple has engaged in too much s*x. Satta rubbished the criticism during the interview as she revealed that Berrettini’s abdominal injury predates the couple’s relationship. “It’s a shame it’s an injury at the same point as in 2021 when I didn’t know him. But in any case: do I really have to answer to these people?”

This isn’t the first time Satta has had to deal with incredulous insinuations

Matteo Berrettini isn’t Satta’s first boyfriend who is a professional athlete. In 2016, Satta married Ghanaian soccer player Kevin-Prince Boateng, a renowned soccer player. However, the couple divorced in 2020.

Boateng suffered from a condition known as pubalgia, which affects the pubic joint. When this condition became public knowledge, critics were quick to point their fingers at Satta. Reflecting on this during the interview, Satta said, “Even there they attacked me saying we had too much s*x and that was the cause of his physical problems.”
