Novak Djokovic’s run at the Italian Open is finally over now. Coming into the event with a poor run of form, he was looking to turn things around and secure the title. However, fate had some other plans in mind. Playing against Chilean Alejandro Tabilo, the Serbian would have thought that he could easily secure the win. But, kudos to the rising star for shining bright and proving everyone wrong.

In a straight-set win, he emerged on top and ended the R3 match with the scoreline of 6-2, 6-3. Having accomplished one of the biggest wins of his career, the Chilean player was short on words as he could not digest the fact that he defeated the best player in the world. In the post-match interview, he came ahead and confessed his real feelings after defeating the Serbian star. The 29th-seeded player opened up on how he spent emotional moments with his family and girlfriend.

He suggested that he could not speak anything and the same was the case with his family and girlfriend. They were all a little emotional cause seeing him at the top after sacrificing so many things meant a lot to them. ” At the beginning I couldn’t say anything. It was an unbelievable feeling. I had no words. There with my girlfriend and my family, they were both kind of emotional, a little tearing up. It’s been crazy. It’s been a crazy ride, especially with my family. So many sacrifices. I left at such an early age. They know what it’s taken to get here. Hopefully I can just keep going and keep with this confidence,” said Tabilo in the post-match conference.

In the post-match interview, the Serbian came ahead and suggested that he certainly did not play the game that he wanted to. It was very different compared to what he showed a couple of days back. While he initially denied any claims that the bottle incident could not have been a very significant reason, he later suggested that he would have to check with his medical team if that could be a possible reason or not.

“I don’t know, to be honest. I have to check that. Training was different, I was going for kind of easy training yesterday. I didn’t feel anything, but I also didn’t feel the same. Today under high stress, it was quite bad, not in terms of pain, but in terms of this balance. Just no coordination. Completely different player from what it was two nights ago. Could be. I don’t know. I have to do medical checkups and see what’s going on,” said the Serbian in the post-match conference.
