The Italian star has won all his group-stage matches before defeating Medvedev today to reach the finals. Amongst his victories in Turin, wins over the likes of Novak Djokovic and Holger Rune, not only helped him top the Green Group, but also made him the top contender for the year-end championships. However, it was the record of the Swiss Maestro matched by Sinner that has caught everyone’s attention.

With four successive victories, Jannik Sinner is the first player to reach the championship match of the ATP Finals undefeated before turning 23 since Roger Federer in 2003.

Federer achieved the same feat in 2003 when he was placed along with the likes of Andre Agassi in the same group. Not only did he top the group, but also went on to win the title, going undefeated in that tournament. Sinner can match his idol if he can win the finals tomorrow.

Sinner’s only regret about the Swiss Maestro

During an interview, Sinner revealed his unhappiness about not playing against the Swiss maestro. While he was making his way into the ATP Tour, Federer was nearing the end of his career. As a result, the two never met on the court.

Talking about this in an interview with Corriere Della Sera, he said, “I have been lucky in my life, but I miss Federer. I accept it; it’s part of the game. Official matches are no longer possible, maybe in the future, we will face each other in an exhibition. However, I wouldn’t change anything: I am happy to be a tennis player of this era. The new generation offers different styles, characters, and personalities.”
