Being a professional tennis athlete requires an overall development for a player. While the mental aspects matter, the physicality also plays a crucial role in it. Holger Rune, the 21-year-old Danish superstar understands this very well and therefore he gives his everything during his workouts. These sessions however have paid him off big time. Rune recently opened up on the reason behind his overpowered quads and how he’s managed to maintain them.
Following his victory over Alexander Bublik, Rune was asked about his impressive leg muscles in the post match interview. Rune humorously credited his parents for the same saying, “For sure, it is a gift. Again, I have to thank my parents, but no, I mean, we are definitely working like every day.” His strong physique is not just the result of natural gifts, though. Rune has dedicated time to building his strength. In addition, his exercise routine that’s majorly pointed towards his knees and quadriceps, explaining, “We’re working on stability for the knee and stuff that goes around the quads.”
He suggested that during his off-season training, he focuses majorly on his leg workout. Last year in Dubai, Rune had a grueling workout session that left a lasting impression. “I remember last off-season, I did the first part in Dubai actually, and we were doing some leg days. I’ve never had so sore legs in my life,” he shared recalling Bulgarian squats and step-ups that tested his limits. Despite the soreness, he recognized the importance of such hard work, saying, “At the end of the day, without all that practice, I still have decent legs.”

This is not the first time he has said something like that. During the BNP Paribas Open earlier this year, Rune talked about the length of his shorts and how he likes them to be. “I think five inches is pretty good,” he said of his Nike inseam at the BNP Paribas Open. “I don’t know how long these are, but they’re around five,” he said.

He also shed the light on how his parents have played a crucial role in building his genetically stronger legs. During the Indian Wells, he hilarious compared his leg muscles to that of Novak Djokovic’s.

Rune confidently backed his quads as the best in the business clarifying he wasn’t being boastful but had a real belief in his physique’s power and utility on the court. “I mean I would have to back myself, to be honest,” Rune said. “I’m not being selfish or anything; I just believe in my legs, you know. Not just the look but even on the court I think they’re efficient.”
