Three-time Grand Slam champion, Andy Murray, turned up the heat at the 2023 Wimbledon Championships on Day 2 of the tournament. The Briton took no time in dispatching his compatriot, Ryan Peniston, in straight sets (6-3, 6-0, 6-1) in just over two hours. With Murray showing no signs of aging at 36, he has received widespread support from his ever-growing fanbase. Now, it looks like one of the Spice Girls is looking forward to supporting the Brit in his upcoming match.

During the former World Number One’s first-round encounter at Wimbledon, Princess Kate Middleton made a royal appearance. Additionally, 20-time Grand Slam champion Roger Federer?also cheered for Murray from the Royal Box. With the first round done and dusted, Murray braces for a tough second-round match against World Number 5, Stefanos Tsitsipas. Nonetheless, Murray received a positive surprise ahead of the big match.

The two-time Wimbledon champion found local support in the form of former Spice Girls member, Melanie C. The 49-year-old stopped by for a short interview where she was asked to predict the winner of the match between Murray and Tsitsipas.

Replying to this question, Melanie said, “Is that even a question?! Of course, we are all here backing Andy Murray today.”?The Sporty Spice looked confident while placing her bet on her compatriot.

Earlier, Melanie also talked about the chances of 29-year-old Liam Broady at Wimbledon this year. The latter happens to be from the same region as the former Spice Girl. Talking about the prospects of Broady, Melanie revealed, “Ooo, well of course being a northern girl, I’ve got to go with that good northern stock, I’m going to go for Liam Broady.

Broady is currently up against Casper Ruud of Norway in his second-round encounter on Wimbledon centre court. While he managed to win the first set, Ruud came back strongly to level the match. Meanwhile, Murray’s encounter against Tsitsipas is scheduled on the same court later in the day.

In what was one of the greatest matches so far at this year’s grass-court Grand Slam tournament, Tsitsipas overcame the challenge of his Austrian opponent, Dominic Thiem. However, the Greek had to pull up his socks at regular intervals as Thiem gave him a run for his money. Eventually, Tsitsipas prevailed in five sets 3-6, 7-6 (1), 6-2, 6-7 (5), 7-6 (8) in just under four hours.
