In an era so magnificently dominated by the Big-3 in men’s tennis, Switzerland’s Stan Wawrinka made his mark by not only establishing a healthy rivalry with each of them but also winning a few Grand Slams.
Wawrinka has three Grand Slam titles at the 2014 Australian Open, 2015 French Open and 2016 US Open as he defeated the current World No. 1 Novak Djokovic on all three of those occasions to claim the title.

Wawrinka’s personal life
Stan Wawrinka has been a colorful character on the court and off it as well. He married Ilham Vuilloud, a swiss TV presenter in 2009. The couple has a daughter together, called Alexia, who was born in 2010.
However, after four years of dating and almost six years of marriage, the couple filed for divorce. They finalized the divorce in 2016. Wawrinka blamed the erratic schedule that comes with being a player on tour and his veritable absence in his family’s life because of it as the reasons for the breakdown of his marriage.
“Ilham and I were both blessed to create a family when our wonderful daughter Alexia was born in 2010. We have always tried to live our lives as a team and as a family, despite the challenges we have faced due to the demands of my career. To my great regret, this isn’t possible anymore,” he said once.
“Ilham will always be the mother of my daughter and a person that I have a lot of love and respect for. We will always remain as a family. Now my priority is to do everything to protect Alexia during these challenging times,” he further added.
Stan Wawrinka had separated from his family barely a year after his daughter was born but then reconciled. However, during the final phase of his divorce, he requested the media and his fans to understand the delicacy of the situation and give them the privacy they required.
Who is Stan Wawrinka dating now?
While his ex-wife Ilham is reportedly a single mother, Wawrinka started dating fellow tennis player Donna Vekic from Croatia.
Vekic has three WTA singles titles to her name. She also has one five singles and one doubles title on the ITF circuit. The Croatian rose to a career-high ranking of World No. 18. Wawrinka and Vekic started dating in 2015. Their relation came under the radar when Nick Kyrgios, ever the troublemaker, angrily commented about his friend Kokkinakis getting involved with Vekic.
The authorities fined Kyrgios for the event and Wawrinka-Vekic continued to date. However, in May 2019 it was reported that they have broken up. But, it has not been disclosed who the former World No. 3 is dating right, now and it seems that he is now fully concentrating on his comeback to the tour.
Wawrinka’s comeback plans
It was in 2017 where Wawrinka started facing problems with his knees. At Wimbledon that year, he lost in the first round to an upcoming Daniil Medvedev.

The Swiss later announced that he would take some time off the tour to undergo surgery for the damage on his knees. His 2018 season was also sporadic as he could play in some tournaments and then had to take time off because of his injuries. Even the 2019 ATP season saw a similar fate but in a memorable match at the US Open, he defeated defending champion Novak Djokovic in the round of 16.
The Covid-19 pandemic marred his 2020 campaign. This hampered Wawrinka’s comeback plans and schedule to a certain extent. In 2021, he had another surgery on his left foot which caused him to miss the clay, grass and the hard-court seasons. This year, however, he has made another come back playing at the Andalucia Challenger tournament.

Even though he lost in the first round to Alexander Bublik at the Monte Carlo Masters, Wawrinka honestly admitted that a comeback at this point in his life will not be easy.
