Roger Federer on Tokyo Olympics 2021
Before stepping onto his first match on clay and his second tournament of the year, Roger Federer talked about the Olympics this year. Notably, his wait for the Gold started at Sydney Olympics 2000 and continues even after two decades.
Federer came the closest to the medal at the London Olympics 2012, where he finished runner-up to arch-rival Andy Murray. Despite winning every individual accolade in tennis, he wants to win his biggest match for his country.
“Winning a medal for Switzerland would make me so proud,” Federer said. However, he added that the organizers must clarify the event’s commencement. “The athletes need a decision; is it being done or is it not?” (All quotes are translated from French to English via Google Translate).
Furthermore, the 2008 Olympic Gold medal winner in doubles revealed that his decision has had been tough on the family. As per the guidelines, there is a restriction on family members of athletes of traveling nations in the Tokyo Olympics.
“In any case, it will test the situation a bit with me at home,” Federer said. “I talked a lot about that with Mirka, ‘before adding,’ now the comeback is the priority.”
