Those words weren’t just a sweet nod to their relationship—they were a testament to the powerful partnership that drives Medvedev both on and off the court. While Medvedev has firmly established himself as one of the most iconic players in tennis, Daria’s connection to the sport runs just as deep. Medvedev and Daria met for the first time when they were as young as 14. The two even shared a house in Norway together at a young age. But Medvedev’s friendship and eventual love was built on their mutual passion for tennis. Daria had a budding career of her own in the sport.

Daria and Daniil trained together for a long time until the budding player was 18. But unfortunate roadblocks continued to become obstacles in her career and she failed to turn pro owing to several injuries she faced. Eventually, she decided to quit the sport when she was 18 and shifted her focus to journalism. She enrolled at the Moscow State Institute of International Relations for her studies, but tennis continued to remain her passion. 

Interestingly, Daniil reached out to Daria over Instagram messages in 2014. The topic the two discussed was nothing but tennis and ultimately exchanged phone numbers. This bond and the training sessions started to blossom their love and the two eventually married in 2018. The couple also welcomed their daughter Alisa in 2022. But while Daria bid adieu to tennis at a young age, her understanding of the game has helped the couple in their relationship.

Reflecting upon this, Medvedev said during a press conference. “It’s great that she understands tennis. She knows that we can’t go shopping before the game. Understands that I can be busy from 8 am until the evening.” He continued, “Perhaps it’s not easy to get used to it when you don’t understand anything in tennis. It helped me to become better as a person and a player.” But their relationship has not just been limited to off the court. There have been times when Daria revealed interesting facts to Medvedev and the one about Taylor Fritz stands out.

Daniil Medvedev engaged in an interview ahead of his third-round clash with Flavio Cobolli at the US Open. He revealed a story about his Wimbledon Campaign in 2018 and claimed that he was shocked to know what Taylor Fritz said about him while talking to his coach after a practice session. It was Medvedev’s then-girlfriend and now-wife, Daria Medvedeva, who heard it and she let the Russian know.

The Russian star recalled what his girlfriend Daria told him after the match. “She says he was talking to his coach and he was like, ‘Damn this guy! He cheats all the time’ and I was so shocked.” Interestingly, Medvedev is known for his fearlessness and honest actions in the courts but this information from a trusted source like his girlfriend brought immense surprise to the tennis star.
