Grab a bucket full of popcorn! Ten-time Australian Open champion Novak Djokovic is all set to take on Carlos Alcaraz in an exciting QF clash at the 2025 AO. The Spaniard is currently searching for his first win on hard court against the former world number one. And to help him in his mission, we’re already seeing his team putting in some hard yards. Wait a minute, who’s that guy in a blue T-shirt sitting alongside his coach Juan Carlos Ferrero, and the physio, Juanjo Moreno?

Well, he’s none other than Carlos Alcaraz’s elder brother, Alvaro Alcaraz Garfia. He’s currently playing the role of his hitting partner at the 2025 AO. The Alcaraz clan has been a tennis family for generations. Speaking on this, Carlos Alcaraz once said, “In my family, I think we have the sport in our blood. We all played from the time we were young.” Apart from Alvaro, the Spaniard has two other siblings, Sergio and Jaime. All three of them have been connected to the racquet sport in some way or the other.

For example, according to his ATP profile, Alvaro played competitive doubles with his recent match being in February 2020. He is one of the biggest supporters of Carlos Alcaraz. Although he no longer plays competitive tennis, he has been by his younger brother’s side during the Tour. In fact, Alvaro was present in the player’s box when Carlos won the Wimbledon Championships and the US Open.

Even during his losses he always found his brother by side. A prime example of it was the 2023 Cincinnati Masters final. Carlos Alcaraz had to face a hard-fought defeat at the hands of Novak Djokovic in that match. However, during the post-match trophy ceremony, he didn’t forget to thank his elder brother for his constant support. He said, I have my brother here as well. It’s great to have you here, supporting me every day, to make me be a better person every day, learning from you as well, so thank you very much for being with me.

In December 2024, El PAIS reported, that a neighbor had pointed out the difference between Alvaro and Carlos in their childhood days. One [Alvaro] had to be grabbed by the ear to bring him in, and the other had to be grabbed by the ear to get him out of here… He spent hours and hours in front of the wall,” said the observer.

Do you know that once Carlos was even spotted issuing a hilarious warning to Jannik Sinner about his brother’s serving prowess? Yes, it happened during a practice session at the 2024 US Open, and Alcaraz was heard telling Sinner, Careful Jannik that this guy (Alcaraz’s brother, Alvaro) serves better than you.” We’ve now got to know a lot about Carlos Alcaraz’s strong bond with his elder brother. “They see me as the older brother, not as the famous tennis player” – Carlos Alcaraz

Both of the Spaniard’s younger brothers play tennis. In July 2023, Jaime even won a Rafa Nadal Tour event in Madrid in the U-12 division. Jaime had been previously also invited to the IMG Future Stars Invitational Tournament. He was also spotted on the Wimbledon practice courts alongside his elder brother, Carlos Alcaraz in 2023. Last year, during an interview with ABC Sports, Alcaraz opened up about his relationship with his three brothers.

I think they enjoy watching me. They feel my achievements are theirs. They support me every day and they see me as the older brother, not as the famous tennis player who has been number 1 or who has won Grand Slams, but as the older brother who has to take care of them,” he said in that interview. While speaking about his relationship with his elder brother, Alvaro, Alcaraz expressed his gratitude for the support he received from him.

In another interview, Carlos Alcaraz was heard saying, “I love tennis but I love even more being the older brother of my little ones. Being the role model for them, not as a tennis player but as a person. That is the most important thing — to help them learn about the things that matter in life.” Talking about role models, well it seems now as if his younger brother Jaime has already started to follow in his footsteps. Recently, the 13-year-old youngster made the headlines by winning his first qualifying match at the Les Petits As.

This event is also known as the Lacoste World Championship and guess what? This is one of the most significant events played on the Junior European Tour. Tennis legends like Roger Federer, Rafael Nadal, Novak Djokovic, and Andy Murry have all been part of this tournament during their childhood days. Do you think Jaime can reach the heights of his elder brother and become another superstar in the tennis world? Share your thoughts in the comment box.
