Nick Kyrgios got off to a flying start to his comeback season with a win at the doubles event alongside Novak Djokovic. However, in the singles event at the Brisbane International, he looked a bit shaky. He faced France’s Giovanni Mpetshi Perricard in the R32 of the tournament and ended up losing in a three-set thriller. To make matters worse, the Aussie might have done some damage to his wrist again.

Nick Kyrgios appeared to be in some discomfort in the same wrist that underwent surgery earlier. Although he managed to throw a stern challenge to Perricard in all three sets, it wasn’t enough, as he lost the three setter by 6-7, 7-6, 6-7. Nick Kyrgios’ resilience in this match was truly praiseworthy! The numbers from both the players in this epic battle were quite extraordinary. Giovanni Mpteshi Perricard hit 36 aces in this match, and guess what? Despite struggling a bit with his wrist, Nick Kyrgios didn’t even commit a single double fault in the entire match.

Quite astonishing isn’t it? Perricard was also quite lethal from the baseline, crushing 8 forehand winners in the first set itself. What did the Frenchman say after this hard-fought victory, though? “Playing against Nick was a good match for me, he did some good things during the match…He was very confident, a good serve. I tried my best and it worked,” said Perricard.

However, the ‘Nick Kyrgios Show’ is not over in Brisbane and that’s perhaps the biggest news for the Aussie fans at the moment.

After the match, the Serb said, “I want to thank Nick for playing. He said the other day that it should be a pleasure to play with him, and it is. I’m glad to share the court with him on his comeback. I haven’t played that many doubles matches in my life, to be honest, particularly in the past five years, so whatever Nick was saying, I was following, actually.”
