After the 2022 debacle, where the Serbian ace, Novak Djokovic, was deported back, due to his contradictory stance toward the COVID-19 vaccine. The former World No 1 is back in Australia. The 21-time Grand Slam champion was the main draw card of the current Adelaide International Event. Furthermore, tennis fans, particularly Djokovic fans, flocked around the Exhibition match arena to catch the glimpse of the Serb in action, ahead of the season opener Grand Slam.

However, everything didn’t go as planned for Djokovic; the World No 5 had to exit the practice match after Medvedev claimed the first set due to discomfort in his hamstring. Though the Serb overcame the Russian hurdle to enter the finale of the event.

Novak Djokovic’s mid-match trouble with a hamstring

While the match was on between the Serbian Ace and the Russian tennis sensation Daniil Medvedev; fans huddled to watch the two greats indulge in the high-intensity session. However, in a shocking downturn of events, the 21-time Grand Slam champion seemed to struggle with his hamstring, as he opted out for medical time-out. In the post-event press conference, World No 5 revealed the mid-match medical attention.

He said, “When the pills kicked in, I guess, after a few games, when it was warm enough, I felt OK. Let’s see how it feels when I wake up tomorrow”.

Certainly a scary predicament for the 21-time Grand Slam champion, his team, and the fans, who gathered from around the world to watch one of the Big 3 perform.

In a nail-biting finale at Adelaide, the former World No 1 overcame Korda to claim his 92nd win by winning the tournament. Despite the injury scare in his match with the Russian, the Serb pulled through to start the season on a winning note.
