US Open 2023 was not a good time for the tennis champion Matteo Berrettini. He suffered an ankle injury during the second round of the tournament as he was playing against Arthur Rinderknech. He rolled out his right ankle while playing a point on Court 5. After the injury, the former world no. 10 gave an update to his fans about how he is working closely with medical experts to get better soon. But things did not turn out the way his fans were hoping for.

Recently, he shared a saddening update with his fanbase with the unfortunate news that would ultimately break their hearts.

After suffering a severe ankle injury, Berrettini had mentioned that he would be back soon and he is closely working with medical experts to recover. However, just moments ago he announced that his season, in fact, is over for now due to the risks involved in playing further because of the injury.

He said, “Despite training at a high level for a few weeks my medical team has advised it would be a risk to compete in the final tournaments of the ATP season. It has been very difficult to accept this but I need to do what is best for next season and my long-term career. I will take this opportunity to reset, rebuild, and start the year fully fit and healthy. It has been an extremely tough year but I’m looking forward to a full and successful season in 2024.

His resentment is truly visible in his words. Of course, not being able to play an important tournament after months of practice is devastating, but for now, it is important for him to rest as well. Further, he also shared what his plans are for the Davis Cup and how he plans to support his team.

During the same conversation, he shared that he would continue to stay in with for the Davis Cup with the captain. He also mentioned that he will try to be as much available as possible to support his team and cheer for them (Italy).

Continuing down the same line, Matteo Berrettini also talked about how he is very appreciative of his fans and how much support they have landed during this stressful phase of his life. And that he will try and get to his best form soon and be back to climb on the top again.
