The tennis community is all excited for the Australian Open, as they will get to witness Rafael Nadal‘s comeback after his lengthy hiatus. With his unparalleled brilliance on the court, the Spanish tennis player has won the hard court major title twice during his journey. However, apart from his on-court triumphs in Melbourne, Nadal once caught the attention of the tennis realm owing to a hilarious off-court incident.

In 2007, the former number-one player secured a quarterfinal finish at the Grand Slam event in Melbourne. But more than his brilliant campaign, it was Nadal’s press conference that became a talking point for many fans.

After stellar performances at the 2007 Australian Open, the Spanish tennis star made it to the quarterfinals. However, Rafael Nadal then tasted defeat at the hands of the Chilean former tennis player, Fernando Gonzalez, who went on to reach the championship match.

While speaking about his lackluster performance, the ‘King of the Clay’ also brought to light his injury struggles. In his press conference in Melbourne, Nadal was heard saying, “I have pain here, in my famous a*s,” as everyone laughed in the conference room.

Reminiscing about the hilarious incident, a fan recently tweeted, “Rafael Nadal after losing to Fernando Gonzalez in 2007 Australian Open:”I have pain here, in my famous a*s…”

As he went unfiltered about his injury struggles, the Spaniard showed signs of fatigue during his campaign at the hard-court major event in Melbourne.

Prior to his encounter with the Chilean tennis veteran, Nadal was up against another big gun, Andy Murray. Even though he came out on top against his British counterpart, the Spaniard showed signs of fatigue during his five-set thriller match. A few days later, Nadal had to play another grueling match as he was a few games away from a championship.

In a more than two-hour battle, the ‘King of the Clay,’ however, was brushed aside by Fernando Gonzalez, who clinched a win in three sets, 6-2, 6-4, 6-3. Later, Gonzalez went on to reach the finals of the 2007 Australian Open, but he was defeated by the champion, Roger Federer.
